PVM Wins Prestigious Award from Oak Ridge National Laboratory

PVM Wins Prestigious Award from Oak Ridge National Laboratory

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, our client Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) awarded PVM the FY21 Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year Award for our exceptional work as a small business subcontractor at the lab. PVM was presented with the award via a virtual ceremony with members of ORNL and our PVM team, including Thomas Zacharia, the Laboratory Director.

"Overall, PVM has been an outstanding vendor at ORNL and in FY21 outperformed all expectations," said Cassandra Stuart, manager of the small business program at ORNL. "ORNL technical staff say PVM has provided exemplary customer service, works very efficiently, and has saved the lab thousands of dollars."

She explained in greater detail the work that earned PVM the award. "PVM’s responsiveness to the users’ technical issues and their ability to develop valuable features was at a significantly lower cost to the laboratory than previous vendors. Congratulations to PVM, the Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year."

While accepting the award, founder and president Pat Mack reflected on the impact of his years of service on the trajectory of his career and life. "I’m particularly proud of this award because many years ago, at the age of 17, I raised my hand and signed up to serve in the United States Navy," he explained, "and then 25 years later, I founded PVM. The unique opportunity that I’ve had as a veteran with a veteran-owned business continues to exemplify my belief that I’ve got the better end of the deal, being a public servant. And particularly a servant that was fortunate enough to wear the cloth of the nation."

About the PVM staff working on this project, Mack stated, "What I’m most especially proud of is the fact that the engineers that have provided this support are all veterans. Greg Evans, the leading engineer, is a veteran. My manager on this task, Jonda Morton, is also a veteran."

At PVM, we are immensely proud of all of our clients. We care about doing work that matters, so we always jump at the chance to do business with organizations that are making a real difference in the world. ORNL is one of those. Sponsored by the United States Department of Energy, this multidisciplinary laboratory performs research and development in service of fields ranging from medicine, space exploration, nuclear energy, genetics, quantum computing, and so much more. They are consistently on the cutting edge of all things science.

But more than being innovative, more than being accomplished, what we really love about Oak Ridge National Laboratory is that they mission-focused on research that is guided by the potential positive impact on people’s lives. That, more than anything else, is what makes them a model client for PVM.

"It is with great humility, an outsized sense of pride, and an even more outsized sense of gratitude that I accept the award," Pat said in closing during his acceptance speech. "On behalf of PVM, Greg, Jonda, and the other veterans that comprise our company, thank you very, very much."

Thank you Oak Ridge National Laboratory! We are happy to work with you!
