Serving Those Who Serve: Why PVM’s Mission Hits Home

Serving Those Who Serve: Why PVM’s Mission Hits Home

By Sydney Metzmaker

At PVM, we exist to serve those who serve.

For me, like most of us at PVM, the mission is personal. I started my career as a government employee, out of a desire to contribute meaningfully.

Before PVM, I experienced the frustration of wanting to give the warfighter what they needed but being limited by the tools and technology available. Serving as a data architecture lead for maritime tactical command and control, I saw firsthand what advanced technology could deliver, but also how often it fell short.

From the Mission, for the Mission

I met PVM CEO Pat Mack early in my career—and even back then, his message and 25+ years of experience in the Navy resonated deeply with me. I saw in PVM an opportunity to be in the seat of truly caring about the warfighter, those in uniform, and those serving civil missions—a chance to directly support the people putting their lives on the line every day. Joining PVM meant I could get excited about providing real solutions that matter, helping individuals serving our nation and their communities, and making a tangible difference in the greater good.

At PVM, it’s deeper than connecting data. Yes, we provide a platform to organize and serve up information—but what sets us apart is that we deeply care about the mission we’re supporting. We don’t just deliver technology; we take responsibility for understanding the customer’s needs better than they even know them.

For those serving, it’s never about the bottom line—it’s about making a difference, supporting their mission, and ensuring they have the tools to succeed without worrying about the mechanics behind the solutions. That sense of purpose hits home and makes our work meaningful beyond the technical outcomes.

What Serving Those Who Serve Looks Like at PVM

At PVM, we take a few unique approaches to support our clients and their missions. We serve by going local—embedding with teams on the ground and becoming a part of something bigger than ourselves to push our clients’ missions forward.

Going Local: Living the Mission in Person

Being local matters more than ever. PVM started on the ground in San Diego—working in the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific labs, side-by-side with our clients. While remote work proved invaluable during COVID and still serves its purpose, expanding PVM’s local presence in the locations where we are supporting critical missions allows us to truly know the people we serve. Understanding a customer requires seeing the full dimensions of their environment—the office, the technology, the challenges, and the individuals driving the mission. True value comes from sitting side by side, observing, listening, and showing respect for their work.

Community: Building Something Greater Together

At PVM, community isn’t a buzzword—it’s how we operate. We believe the strongest missions are carried out by teams who trust one another, share ownership, and show up for each other when it matters most. That applies just as much internally as it does with our customers. We invest in long-term relationships, not transactions. Whether it’s mentoring teammates, supporting veterans and military families, or building lasting partnerships with our clients, we are intentional about creating a culture where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work. When people thrive, missions succeed.

Mission and Outcome Obsessed

We don’t measure success by hours billed or tasks completed—we measure it by impact delivered. At PVM, every engagement starts with a simple question: What outcome truly matters for this mission? From there, we work relentlessly to make sure technology serves the mission—not the other way around. If a solution isn’t improving decision-making, accelerating operations, or making life easier for the people on the front lines, then we aren’t finished. This outcome-first mindset keeps us grounded in what really counts: enabling our customers to succeed when the stakes are highest.

Easy to Work With, Serious About Impact

Technical excellence is only part of the equation. How we show up matters just as much. Our customers consistently tell us that what sets PVM apart is our people—our humility, responsiveness, and commitment to being true partners. We listen first. We adapt quickly. We take ownership when things are hard and celebrate together when missions succeed. Being “great to work with” isn’t a slogan for us; it’s a responsibility we take seriously because trust is earned every day, and relationships are the foundation of lasting impact.

Serving Those Who Serve

At the heart of it all, PVM exists to serve those who serve. Every day, we honor the selfless dedication of those in uniform by delivering the best solutions we can, taking responsibility for their success, and ensuring that our work truly makes a difference.
