Why Take Your Next Step with PVM: Military Fellowships Crafted for Veterans & Military Spouses

Transitioning out of active-duty military and into the civilian workforce can be a nerve-racking and daunting task. Similarly, being a military spouse transitioning to the workforce after a career break can be overwhelming especially when a career pivot is involved. No matter the position, choosing a company that aligns with your personal and professional goals can be like finding a needle in a haystack.

To help ease the transition, the Department of Defense (DOD) offers programs for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses that offer solutions to match the military community with the best-suited companies to help grow their careers.

About PVM’s Military Transition Programs

Two common programs geared toward the military community are the DOD Skillbridge Program and the Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Military Spouse Fellowship Program (MSFP), within the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. PVM is a proud partner of both programs. The DOD Skillbridge Program provides retired and transitioning service members the opportunity to participate in industry training programs while transitioning out of their military careers. The HOH Military Spouse Fellowship Program, a newly established initiative, provides military spouses with professional training, networking, and hands-on experience in the civilian workforce.

An additional PVM partner and professional development opportunity for the military community is Codeup out of San Antonio, TX, which offers tech courses to be fully certified as a full-stack web developer, data scientist, or cloud administrator.

PVM believes that military veterans and military spouses bring valuable skills to their work. PVM’s Head of Talent Dana Hensley oversees the recruitment process at PVM and manages our partnerships with these three professional development programs in hopes of hiring veterans and military spouses. She is on a mission to provide professional opportunities to the military community. “The past year I've been at PVM, my version of what our mission is, is also giving back to our military folks and being able to provide opportunity to military spouses,” said Hensley.

So far, PVM has offered nearly five fellowships—and growing—to veterans and military spouses in less than a year since partnering with these programs.

Why PVM for Military Fellowship

PVM is committed to hiring veterans and bringing in the military community to help us serve our mission. Here are a few reasons that the military community—including our current and past military fellows—love working at PVM.

Mission-Focused Approach

At PVM, our mission is to unleash the power of data and connect people to information to make a difference in the communities we serve. We are passionate about using the power of data to help government agencies and other public sector teams achieve their missions. We thrive on solving complex challenges by unlocking the potential of their data.

Specifically, PVM takes a mission-focused approach to everything we do – meaning we put the customer’s mission above all else, and focus on delivering innovative, quality solutions that help them accomplish their goals. We focus on matching our team members with missions they care about, for example public health, justice, or law enforcement to name a few.

Emily Arnsberg, former HOH Fellow, military veteran, active military spouse who was hired on as a full-time PVM employee said the company’s mission-driven culture is what attracted her to PVM.

“PVM has an amazing culture. I haven’t met anyone who isn’t willing to help you or work with you on something,” said Arnsberg. In addition to culture, Arnsberg wanted to be part of a mission-first company; this is what she missed most from her military service as an Operations Research Analyst for the U.S. Air Force.

True-to-PVM Culture & Values

Another reason the military community likes working at PVM is our “stay true-to-PVM” philosophy, which is one of the core tenants of PVM’s culture. This means maintaining customer-focused and mission-driven while preserving the values, behaviors, and rituals of the company. This mentality helps bring our team together and sets our culture apart.

Flexible and Diverse Work Style

PVM embraces all work approaches, philosophies, and styles. At PVM, we’re not just a team; we’re a vibrant community of diverse individuals who are passionate about the problems we solve for our customers. We believe in delivering value, fostering innovation, and nurturing leadership skills, all while creating an environment that supports your personal and professional growth. Our flexible approach makes PVM a great place to work for people from all different backgrounds.

Tina Densmore, PVM HOH Fellow and military spouse said this is one of her favorite things about working at PVM. “PVM celebrates its dynamic team and eagerly encourages and anticipates the impact every individual can bring to the workplace. I am grateful to be able to study alongside, engage with, and learn from such an incredibly talented team,” Densmore said.

Team Camaraderie

Another reason the military community likes working at PVM is our team camaraderie—we focus on building mutual trust and friendship among people on our team based on our shared values and work style. At PVM, we’re all about working with a diverse group of talented individuals who are dedicated to solving complex problems for our clients. We build our culture to help our team members discover opportunities to grow professionally and personally, overcome challenges, and most of all, make a tangible real-world impact.

Commitment to the Military Community

As a veteran-owned small business, PVM truly focuses on embracing the military community. As a retired Naval Officer, CEO and founder Pat Mack started PVM after he realized the frustrations his fellow Sailors were facing to solve the hard, data-driven problems. Over a decade later, PVM is still driven by this same goal and is focused on taking on the clients’ missions as our own to make a difference in the communities we serve.

Kalene Hildick, PVM HOH Fellow and military spouse said, “PVM understands the military community: whether veterans, transitioning service members or military spouses. We are not viewed as someone different but as an equal. It’s refreshing to be part of such an inclusive team that celebrates the hunger for professional growth.”
